Judy and Dean's Wedding - July 12, 2003 - Best Man's Toast

Dean and Judy,

Celebrating your marriage today is a high privilege for me and for all who have gathered here this evening to honor you. Your story – how you reconnected over 30 years after going to grade school together – is a remarkable evidence of God’s hand in your lives. You’ve not arrived at this day by chance or happenstance, but by Divine appointment. The Bible tells us that if we delight ourselves in God, he will give us the desires of our heart. He has certainly given you each other, and He will give you the most fulfilling life you can imagine together if you continue to delight yourselves in Him and trust Him.

Before we raise our glasses to toast your new life together, I want to give you a few words of encouragement:

Brother, cherish your wife
And love her above all others.
She needs your strength,
Your comfort,
And your care.

She needs you to lead her,
By giving yourself up for her,
Just as the Servant of All
Gave Himself up for you.

And if you should grow weary,
Without reserve from which to give,
Look above to the One
Who first loved you,
And He will fill you up.

Sister, honor your husband
And love him above all others.
He needs your inspiration,
Your encouragement,
And your respect.

He needs you to follow him
But also to help him see the way,
Just as you follow the One,
Who shows us all the Way.

And if you should grow weary,
Without resolve to persevere,
Look above to the One
Who gave Himself for you,
And He will lift you up.

Dean and Judy, may you have a long, joyful and blessed life together.

Te salute, e cent’anno! (an Italian phrase meaning: Wishing you Joy and Happiness for the next 100 years )
