Return of the Shelby GT500

Consider the competition: Chevy's Camaro ZL1 makes 650 horsepower and focuses on racetrack dominance; Dodge's Challenger Hellcat makes 707 horses and aims for quarter-mile authority. It's not yet clear whether the GT500 will aim for either competitor—or both.

Ford has confirmed the GT500 will be introduced sometime in 2019. Until then, we'll just have to wait (im)patiently.

Here's Your First Look at the New Mustang Shelby GT500. The 700-plus horsepower top-tier Shelby is set to be revealed sometime in 2019.

Back in January, Ford revealed it would bring back the Shelby GT500, this time as a 700-plus horsepower monster. Well, here's your first look at the car itself.

Ford revealed a front-facing picture of the GT500 today at its "Ford Uncovered" media event in Michigan, along with information on the new Bronco and the newly-announced Explorer ST.

The picture doesn't show much other than the GT500's gaping front fascia, but we do know from previous announcements the car will have at least 700 horsepower. Whether that power will come from a supercharged or turbocharged engine has yet to be revealed. We also don't know whether the GT500 will receive an automatic transmission, or remain manual-only like the Shelby GT350 is also unclear at this time.
