Limited Run of Mustang Cobra Jet® 50th Anniversary Edition Now Available

Mention Mustang Cobra Jet® and many people conjure up visions of speed, power and domination at drag strips across the United States. And rightfully so; the Cobra Jet has delivered exactly what racers have wanted for the race track for decades. And to celebrate its 50th anniversary, we’re releasing a special limited edition.

The new 2018 Mustang Cobra Jet pays homage to the original – but with the kind of control and velocity that drivers could only dream of when the original Cobra Jet stole the show at the National Hot Rod Association’s legendary 1968 Winternationals race in Southern California.

To highlight this landmark anniversary, we’re offering 68 Mustang Cobra Jets ready to run on the drag strip. Created for racing only, the 2018 Mustang Cobra Jet runs the quarter-mile in the mid-8 second range and at speeds topping 150 mph, securing its reputation for this generation and beyond.

The 50th anniversary project brought together teams from across our company, blending traditional and motorsports engineering. The result is a vehicle that shows off key elements that production Mustangs have in common: thoughtful design, top performance and impressive durability.

Available in Race Red or Oxford White, the Cobra Jet sits on the 2018 Ford Mustang platform, equipped with a supercharged 5.2-liter Coyote V8 for proven performance. The Mustang Cobra Jet has a unique four-link rear suspension, a 3.0-liter Whipple supercharger and a Ford 9-inch rear axle.

Designed to meet the requirements of the National Hot Rods Association, the 2018 Mustang Cobra Jet comes straight from the factory prepped with an NHRA-certified roll cage, Racetech FIA seats and a drag race-specific coil-over suspension. Buyers also can add an optional commemorative 50th anniversary graphics package and badging.

The history of the Cobra Jet includes record-breaking performance spanning five decades. It started when driver Al Joniec led the pack at the NHRA Super Stock in 1968.

We recently showed the 2018 Mustang Cobra Jet as part of our Woodward Dream Cruise display. Next, it made an appearance at the 50th Anniversary Ford Performance Cobra Jet Reunion at Summit Motorsports Park which featured models representing eras from 1968 to today, celebrating the vehicle’s proud past.
